Hey Mr DJ: Divas Edition
Music, now; slapfight, later.
Lately, I’ve been mired in the acts of thin-skinned drama queens and obnoxious sociopaths. There have been too many weird conflicts to list and the details are too pathetic to describe. Nothing that I couldn’t handle, mind you, but that’s only because I can out-diva all those sorry-assed bitches.
Let’s do one for them. This thread needs:
The Glorious Divas of Music
The Wildly Overrated
The Stunning Delusions of Grandeur
The Flamboyantly Combative and Irreconcilable
You only have to know four chords to be a bazillionaire

Hey Mr DJ: Fatwah Follies
It was a matter of the hopeless vs the hapless
The big story this week was the world’s stupidest terrorist failing to kill a whole bunch of people while all the king’s horses and all the king’s men could barely get their shit together to capture him.
In short, we’ve seen some stunning ineptitude from people on both sides that you would think would have all their shit in one sock by now. This DJ thread is for them.
The needs a lot of:
Incompetence
Buffoonery
Nonsense
Balderdash
Scared Stupid
And just a general sense that certain people simply can’t get right. Bonus points for linking the wrong videos, posting broken links, and accidentally pissing on your own keyboard. Good luck!
Last week, Native Son dropped a pretty good string (heh, heh) of good old fashioned metal into the DJ thread. Ever since then, I’ve been craving more. Therefore, post some of your favorite songs with the best guitarists, guitar rock/country/blues/etc, and guitar solos. I left off last week with GNR so I’ll start off this week with the same.
This week, I’ve been getting drawn into conflicts to help where I could, taking on a difficult new project at work, and nearly getting laid to waste by a mysterious fever that lasted for two days and broke suddenly on Wednesday night. In other words, I’ve felt been putting out fires and nearly got consumed by heat while still in the middle of it. My nerves are singed, but I’m far from burned out.
It’s warming up out there and it’s time for a new playlist. This is for everyone of you that responds where you’re needed and does the best you can with what you have—reluctantly or not. Other useful themes include smoke, pyromania, anything heat-related, or even music by artists that can be considered “flaming.”
Man is, by nature, a prideful being, we jersey pop at even the remotest evidence that we stand out or are special from others. Just like the residences of Darwin, Minn. or Castroville, Ca. being number one in anything, even if dubious, can rouse the senses. So, allow me to thrust my index finger in the air:
After weeks of analyzing data on progressive values and counting down the top 100 liberal-friendly counties, The Daily Caller is proud to present its final result: shockingly, the city by the Bay is the most liberal place in America.
Shocker, right?
Although technically, I don’t live in S.F. (the largest zoo/insane asylum, take your pick) we in the Bay Area are quick to embrace anything singular. My little town does have some unique qualities:
* Benicia is one of Money magazine’s “Best Places to Live 2005” (August 2005).
————
* Nick Jr. Family Magazine recognized Benicia in April 2004 as one of the “10 Most Playful Towns in America” (p.44).
—————
* Named Best Place to Raise a Family according to a San Francisco Chronicle survey. 38% of households have children under age 18 at home.
* Benicia was recognized by Money magazine as one of the “Best Places to Live on the Coast” (June 2005).
But this is small potatoes compared to The City.
San Francisco county and city are one and the same — proudly represented by the nation’s most powerful female politician — Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Democrats consistently ride to victory in landslides: Obama had 84 percent in 2008 and Kerry had 83 percent in ’04. This is no doubt the bluest part of a blue state — California has more representation (15 percent) on our list of the most liberal places in the U.S. than any other state in the union.
Oh boy, so now the whole state is getting shout outs.
One thing I have to admit, there is a number of cities that everyone should visit at least once (Paris, London, Venice, Copenhagen, just to name a few) and S.F.clearly falls on this list. As with the entire state, S.F. has fallen on hard times of late, making the streets filthier, less safe, and much less attractive to both tourists and residence. Public services and social programs have been cut, and the natural spill off to this is even more homeless people, bums, destitute, and vagrants occupying the streets and terrorizing sponging off whoever is around. Trash and bodily discharges has grown inversely proportional to civility and common courtesy. And public parking…........forget about it.
“It’s impossible to be the weirdest person in San Francisco.”
I know, fight that urge to call your travel agent immediately.
Although,as I get older, I find myself less and less inclined to brave a visit to The City, I have volumes of memories of great days and experiences, the bistros, the bookstores, the street entertainers, the seafood, the whole ambiance, and a truly great place for romance. And the fact that the people running the place have always been one sandwich short of a picnic, adds to it’s eccentricity.
I have little doubt that when AQ get their hands on a nuke, S.F. will be their first target (no place in the country is more decedent and sinful, according to their way of life), this makes me a bit nervous, but if just the West Bay is taken out…..........I can live with that.

Hey Mr DJ: Philosophers Edition
Contemplation, reflection, and other things that don’t look like work but really are
This week, we had our first Discourses post in several months and I welcomed a friend to the VO fold who is a lover of wisdom. This week, I want some music that teaches, inspires, and makes me think. Lyrics aren’t important: music that’s good for meditation is most welcome. Give me a play list that I can zone out to and mind-meld with a fern, or something. I need music of human nature, spiritual growth, and living on a mountain with goats and all that good shit.
I play this one a lot, but the line “you can run all your life but not go anywhere” is one of the most profound things I’ve ever heard:
When I was a teenager and much more spiritual, THIS was my top album for meditation and reflection. Something about the Army knocked that quality out of me but I still love the album:
Hit me with truth.
UPDATE:Here’s the playlist, continuously updated. Thanks for your contributions.
Some old standbys, along with a few new wrinkles, were trotted out in protest of Obama’s war
Ah, memories, bringing me back to the good old days of tangling with anti war protesters in The City. And just like at the tea parties, the American flag plays a predominant role.
Some things they need to lose: The flag burning (so cliche), the Israel hatred (let CAIR do the heavy lifting in this area, they do it much better), the Bush hatred (its hard to give it up, maybe a 12 step program would help) and those tired worn out “imperialists” tags (it did not work when Stokley Carmichael was bantying them around 40 years ago). And I love the dot connecting ,” We live in an Empire, and this empire is spreading around the world, so now, we have genocide in the Middle East”. Oh, and somebody should have a “adopt a truther” booth.
Some new touches: It is now Obama’s war, did not expect that. And those bitchin’ “drone” cut outs that Code Pink was sporting on sticks….........I want one.
Interestingly, this demonstration was even more “white” then your average tea party, I wonder if MSNBC will connect that dot and label them all racist red necks?
All in all, a good time. We had some pyrotechnics, some claimed Muslim bashing, and some babes with their pink wigs.
Yeah, yeah, we get it, America sucks, Israel sucks, and your life sucks. It didn’t quite work out the way you thought, did it?

Hey Mr DJ: Bad Friday Edition
Let’s face it: life isn’t fair
It’s been a bitch of a year or two, truly. It seems like everything is going against decent, sane people everywhere. What can we do about it? Well, we can cry and moan.
This week’s theme is “Life is Unfair.” Give me some music about getting fucked over, the bad guys winning, or if you fail even at that; just some straight up whiny emo music.
In light of recent developments here in the USA, let’s reign in our new Socialism twist to country.
I believe everything in the world can be bastardized by greed. I used to think that America was the only shining light in that equation, because America was a nation that would acknowledge greed as a factor in any initiative. It turns out that my program is being deleted from the Matrix, and not a moment too soon. I was getting pretty tired of trying so hard. I’m looking forward to not doing shit with my life, and reaping all of the rewards. I’ve seen this before when I lived in Europe, and as soon as I thought I had escaped it, the Democrats have made second place as good as a gold medal. In honor of life being an episode of the Teletubbies, how about some feel good music?
I’m looking forward to this. I’m never going to pay down my student loans, I’m dropping my insurance, and I’m probably going to flum my nose at the boss when I’m asked to go the extra mile. They’re just being “mean” after all, and that’s not cute or cuddly by any stretch of the imagination.
Anyone else feel like I do?

Hey Mr DJ: Fighting Words Edition
Sometimes, when you really want to accomplish something…you just have to threaten people and what they value most.
I’ve been inspired by Senator Coburn:
I love credible threats that hit assholes where it really hurts—especially when I’m the one uttering them. What I want now is some good “fighting words” music to keep the fire going. Put somebody in his place today. Selections will be rated on clarity and specificity of the threat as well as reckless regard for tact.
Now hit submit and check out how he is doing so far…............holy cow!!!
Ya know, I could see a foxnews poll with these kind of results, but CBS? They are right up there with CNN, NBC, and the NY Times as the preeminent water carriers for the Obama Administration, how could this happen?
I gave Obama a passing grade for both Afghanistan and Iraq (not great, but passing) and also for social issues (he is a socialist after all), these issues should be front and center with him. And if enthusiasm was a criterion, I would of passed him on health care as well (since this is all he talks about) but direction matters and the people have finally figured out that when he talks about government run health care, it has nothing to do with health care and everything do to with government power and influence.
No one considers polls like these scientific, or even reflective of voters as a whole, but you have to admit, a MSM poll that drastically tilts this unfavorably could be more revealing than we had imagined, and could go a long way in defining the real push behind reconciliation.

Hey Mr DJ: The Riot Act Edition
Our sovereign Lord the King chargeth and commandeth all persons, being assembled, immediately to disperse themselves, and peaceably to depart to their habitations, or to their lawful business, upon the pains contained in the act made in the first year of King George, for preventing tumults and riotous assemblies. God save the King.
Tea Partiers! Planes crashing into the IRS! Dog owners forced to pay fees! That’s just the US. Meanwhile, there’s rioting in Greece and massive unrest in Iran.
Anti-government sentiment is on the rise everywhere and it’s time for the VO to catch anarchy fevah! Give me your best music for rebellion, civil unrest, disobedience, and antidisestablishmentarianism.
Up with the barricades!

Hey Mr. DJ: Winter Olympics
The winter Olympics start tonight. Winter sports will be our theme for the week.
One upside of being unemployed and having a dual-tuner TiVo is that I’m going to get to watch a crapton of Olympics this time around.
We’ll start off with the obligatory Bugler’s Theme by Leo Arnaud:
Looking forward to ski-jumping and quad jumps:
Not sure how much Winter Olympics-theme music we can find, so as a fallback, we can do Canadian bands:
