Great, we have an affirmative action recipient telling us to do more, that’s rich
Our chief law enforcement officer of the nation wasted little time making the news. But did he crack some spy ring, capture a known terrorist, uncover a massive child labor violator, or even bring a case against the tainted peanut butter manufacturers? Nope, you want real police work, go watch CSI, no, Holders’ claim to fame (and probably a harbinger of what to expect from this slick practitioner who is thin on credentials but makes up for it in bluster) is to be the racial consciousness (cudgel) to the nation. And how he will wield this new power of his is to label us as a nation of cowards.
Eric Holder, the nation’s first black attorney general, said Wednesday the United States was “a nation of cowards” on matters of race, with most Americans avoiding candid discussions of racial issues. In a speech to Justice Department employees marking Black History Month, Holder said the workplace is largely integrated but Americans still self-segregate on the weekends and in their private lives.
“Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and I believe continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards,” Holder said.
Race issues continue to be a topic of political discussion, but “we, as average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about race.”
And for some, that’s all they talk about. But I’m confused, I thought we already crossed that bridge, already proved our meddle by being the first major power to elect a black man ( VO disclaimer- all descriptions of our president have the title “black man” used perfunctorily as a politically correct imprimatur, even though racially speaking, he is only half black, but in matters of race, the black influence is always rounded up, so although not factually correct calling Obama black, for purposes of conciliation, we will continue with the charade here and just call him our first black president).
I’ve written before how those on the left that felt obliged to make a racial statement in the last election and think they are now off the hook, better think twice.
Ogletree’s point is that because of pervasive racism which he expects will last decades, white America won’t vote for blacks and other minority candidates. The expected heavy white vote for Obama doesn’t disprove this thesis, Ogletree says, because Obama’s not black; he’s “biracial.” So it looks like, according to Ogletree (and Obama?) that white America will have to do lots more for blacks after electing Obama to atone for past sins; it will get little if any credit for electing Obama.
So now we have Holder telling us that even though we now have a black president, and that the work place is integrated, it’s not enough, painfully brought to the forefront by the fact that on the weekends, people have the audacity to pal around with their friends and the people they feel comfortable around, and these people do not have the required amount of diversity as mandated by the federal government. I wish Holder would come visit my tennis club on the weekends, the only groups not sufficiently represented are midgets and scientologists.
Race, Holder said, “is an issue we have never been at ease with and, given our nation’s history, this is in some ways understandable… If we are to make progress in this area, we must feel comfortable enough with one another and tolerant enough of each other to have frank conversations about the racial matters that continue to divide us.”
Maybe Holder needs to get out more (those ivy league types do have a tendency to lead sheltered lives) but I think we have done pretty well in this regard. I’d say that the race baiters have been sufficiently marginalized, and that as a society (and I’ll use Obama as proof) we have come pretty far in realizing Dr. King’s vision of a colorless society.
Malkin has some prescient comments on Mr. Holder:
Funny. When I think of racial cowards, I think of Barack Obama at Jeremiah Wright’s church, sitting there week after week, year after year, saying nothing about the separatist demagoguery echoing from the pulpit to the pews.
When I think of racial cowards, I think of all the navel-gazers who fret about poisonous racial dialogue, but say nothing about “My President Is Black” bigotry.
When I think of racial cowards, I think of the people cowed by mau-mau-er Al Sharpton - now attacking the NYPost over a cartoon lampooning that crazy dead chimp.
When I think of racial cowards, I think of the folks who enable p.c. thugs to cry racism over “That One” and “Thug Thizzle” and “tricked out.”
Holder doesn’t want an honest dialogue about race. In the Age of Obama, “talking enough with each other about race” means the rest of us shutting up while being subjected to lectures about our insensitivity and insufficient integration on the weekends.
I hope Obama calls Holder aside and gives him a dressing down regarding a topic Obama himself has handled pretty well. He was gracious to Bill Clinton on the campaign trail regarding his S.Carolina comments, and aside from his , “well, the other side does not want you to vote for me because I’m different, I’m black”, he has comported himself honorably in this regard.
Holder should confine himself to matters of law enforcement and civil litigation. Many of Obama’s supporters have not come down from their high, still basking in the glow of racial conciliation, don’t burst their bubble just yet.
