Honestly, I expected MW or kevin, notable college fans for sure, or some of our other sports enthusiasts to rattle their cages for some much needed frabba-jabba. To say that this season has been somewhat of a let down compared to last year, understandable. It seemed like every week last year we were having a top 5 ranked shoot out in the Big 12. This year has been more sedate, but what the usual power houses have lacked (Florida, Penn St., USC), the lower tired schools and some unusual suspects (Boise St., Iowa, Cinci, TCU) have made up for and provided some much needed excitement. And speaking of Boise State, what do you make of this?

Boise State athletic director Gene Bleymaier is all but begging for a major opponent – any major opponent – to play his Broncos, particularly in 2011. He can hardly get his calls returned. Not by the SEC. Not by the Big Ten. Not by anyone.

Bleymaier is making a nearly unheard of offer in college football scheduling – Boise will bring its popular, high-profile, top-10 team to any stadium in any town to play any big name team in America in 2011. And they don’t have to return the date in Idaho.

So far, no one has bit.

If anybody has watched The Broncos this year, holy cow, they are bringing a big bag of knuckles to every game.

So are the big schools scared of playing Boise? Avoiding tough non-conference opponents is the new trend in college football thanks to the BCS. The championship system discourages dangerous, if exciting, out-of-league scheduling as it continues to sap the life out of the regular season.

Clearly, this is the fault of the BCS. Somebody should tell those bozo’s that little schools in Idaho, Texas, and Cincinnati are also part of their pecking order and are just as deserving.

Boise St., TCU, Cinci., and Iowa could all go undefeated, and no doubt the BCS will give them a fruit or flower bowl as a reward, and they will be outside looking in as Texas plays Florida/Alabama for the Big Kahuna. And I haven’t even mentioned the team which is probably the best in the country,  Oregon.

As far as today’s games, LSU/Alabama is the cream, all others are pretty much preordained. Oklahoma/Nebraska should also be entertaining.

A short note on my Heisman picks so far,if I had to choose today, Colt McCoy would win (do ya think Sam Bradford is kicking himself for not going pro last year?) with Mark Ingram and Jacquizz Rodgers following respectively, but at mid season, this race is wide open.
