Why Can’t I get an Iphone from Verizon?
This may be best answered by some of our telecom experts, but I am getting fed up with this.
The Macworld Expo just came and went, and I was anxiously anticipating Apple to say they’ve opened the doors to selling the Iphone with other carriers. There were rumors flying around about Apple releasing the IPhone to Verizon, marked by Apple seeking CDMA friendly engineers (what else could it be, after all?) and whenver I would go into Verizon they give you a canned answer to the tune of “We hear that Apple has been very displeased with AT&T’s service. There were also some bending in the will of Apple to release the Iphone for sale outside of the USA. It all seemed to make sense, and I was hoping to have an IPhone in my hand come my birthday.
All that said, I got nuthin’ from the Macworld Expo. As a matter of fact, I got an even worse feeling as rumors seemed to start flying around that Apple was going to extend their contract with AT&T through to 2010. At that point, I asked myself “Do I even want this fucking phone if this is the way it’s going to be?” Apple and Verizon would be the perfect marriage to me. The CDMA platform seems to be superior to the GSM network, and it’s supported abroad (checked to see that before I leave for Europe). So, to quote Ronald McDonald “What the McFuck is going on?”
Does anyone have an answer to this riddle? Quite honestly, the only thing that sucks about Verizon is their phones. Korean phones (like Korean design students, and Korean car companies-yeah, I said it) are hacks, with small exceptions. With every phone I see in the show room, you can visibly tell they are the culmination of kit bashing competitors like the Iphone for interface and styling. The same holds true for Korean cars, often times looking like some Mercedes-Cadillac-BMW Frankensteins, with a horrible driver experience to boot. I can’t believe a company like Verizon would be willing to loose this much business to AT&T over a phone. It seems asinine, but I am almost considering making the switch. Almost.
Can someone answer this for me?
